Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin has revealed a strategy that could prevent illegal immigrants from ever entering U.S. sanctuary jurisdictions by halting international passenger and cargo processing at airports near those areas.
During an appearance with Sean Hannity on Fox News Tuesday night, Mullin stated that he and others are “currently drawing up plans” to stop such processing in cities designated as sanctuary jurisdictions. He cited recent Democratic interference with Department of Homeland Security officers at immigration detention facilities, most recently in Newark, New Jersey, as the reason for the proposed action.
“They don’t want us to enforce immigration, but they want us to process immigration at their facilities?” Mullin asked. “Nothing about that makes sense to me.”
The Secretary noted that the Justice Department has previously identified sanctuary jurisdictions including states such as California and Connecticut; counties like Cook County, Illinois; and cities including Boston, Denver, and San Francisco.
Mullin did not specify which airports or cities would be affected by the plan.
