California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) has sparked widespread online criticism after posting a message that drew comparisons to Patrick Bateman, the fictional serial killer from the film American Psycho.
In his post, Newsom wrote: “For so many years people have been saying that Patrick Bateman and I look alike. Now this pic has been going all over the place. What do you think?” He shared an image comparing himself to the character.
The governor was responding to a tweet from President Donald Trump, who had compared himself to Elvis Presley during a visit to Graceland. Newsom’s post garnered more than 4.5 million views and quickly attracted criticism on social media, with users labeling his self-awareness as excessive or narcissistic.
