During Clayton High School’s graduation ceremony last Thursday in North Carolina, Leen Hijaz, a Muslim pro-Palestine valedictorian, delivered a commencement speech that included critical remarks about U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Palestinian cause.
According to reports, school officials approached Hijaz at the podium and cut off her remarks after she shifted focus to these topics. The student then sat down as the ceremony continued.
The audience responded with a standing ovation for Hijaz following the interruption.
